Asian countries dominated the production charts during June 2018. The top three producers were from this region.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The monthly world crude steel production continued to surge higher during the month of June this year. The latest production statistics released by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) indicates 5.8% jump in production during the month. The output totaled 151.379 million tonnes (Mt) in June this year, as compared with the output of 143.096 Mt in the same month in 2017. Also, the world countries reported 4.6% surge in output during the first six months of the current year.
Asian countries dominated the production charts during June 2018. The top three producers were from this region. China continued to be the world’s largest crude steel producer, accounting for more than 70% of the total global output. The Chinese production edged higher by 7.5% over the previous year. The Japanese production was up by 4.2%. In third place was India, which reported 7.4% jump in monthly steel output. The country, which has been consistently recording higher steel production during the past few months, is all set to beat Japan to emerge as the world’s second largest producer.

The capacity utilization ratio hit the highest level in six months at 78.5% in June this year. This is 3.8 percentage points higher when compared with June 2017.
