U.S. Steel Declares Retirement of Senior Executive After 33 Years of Service

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pittsburgh-based United States Steel Corporation (US Steel) announced the retirement of Douglas R. Matthews, Senior Vice President – Chief Commercial & Technology Officer, Tubular and Mining Solutions after 33 years of glorious service with the company.

U. S. Steel President and Chief Executive Officer David B. Burritt stated that reminded that Dough had held responsible leadership roles in operational and commercial activities in most aspects of its business. The company is grateful for his leadership, dedicated and loyal service to the company and the countless contributions that he has made over the years to the company’s success, he added.

In appreciation of his many contributions, the company has decided to establish United States Steel Douglas R. Matthews Educational Equity Scholarship at his alma mater, Pennsylvania State University. This will help the next generation to develop into leaders of his calibre, the company hopes.

Dough started his career with U.S. Steel in 1998. After this, he progressed through increasingly responsible management responsibilities. He had assumed his current role in January this year. He had been a leading advocate for inclusion and diversity at U.S. Steel.
