SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. steel industry recorded a modest decline in weekly raw steel production during the week ending June 27, 2026, according to the latest industry data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). However, the output remained higher than the level seen a year earlier.

According to data, domestic steelmakers produced 1.842 million net tons of raw steel during the week, with mills operating at 79.8% capacity utilization.

Compared with the previous week ended June 20, output slipped by 0.5%. The production totaled 1.851 million net tons at a capability utilization rate of 80.2% during the previous week. Meanwhile, production was 2.8% higher than the 1.792 million net tons recorded during the corresponding week in 2025, with capacity utilization remaining unchanged from the same week last year.

For the year through June 27, 2026, adjusted raw steel production reached 46.237 million net tons, higher by 6.0% increase from 43.620 million net tons produced during the same period in 2025. Average mill utilization also improved to 78.7%, compared with 76.8% in the previous year.

Regionally, the Southern district continued to lead U.S. steel output with 828,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes at 498,000 net tons. The Midwest produced 313,000 net tons, while the Northeast contributed 136,000 net tons and the Western region added 67,000 net tons.
