U.S. Weekly Raw Steel Production Climbs 4.9% Year Over Year, Says AISI

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The U.S. raw steel production continued to show positive momentum during the week ended July 25, 2026, according to the latest figures released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).

The country's steel mills produced an estimated 1.858 million net tons of raw steel during the week, with mills operating at a capability utilization rate of 80.5%. This marks a 4.9% increase compared with the corresponding week in 2025, when production totaled 1.771 million net tons at a utilization rate of 78.2%.

Compared with the previous reporting week ended July 18, 2026, U.S. steel output moved higher. Weekly production rose from 1.830 million net tons to 1.858 million net tons, edging higher by 1.5%. Capability utilization also improved from 79.3% to 80.5%, according to AISI data.

Through July 25, 2026, adjusted raw steel output reached 53.64 million net tons, representing a 5.8% increase from the 50.713 million net tons produced during the same period in 2025. The average capability utilization rate during this period improved from 77.0% a year earlier to 78.9%.

Among regions, the Southern district remained the largest contributor with 848,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes at 500,000 net tons, the Midwest with 317,000 net tons, the North East at 132,000 net tons, and the Western region with 61,000 net tons.
