SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domestic raw steel production in the United States continued its upward trajectory in the week ending March 21, 2026, signalling steady momentum in industrial activity.
The latest data from the American Iron and Steel Institute shows that total output reached 1.781 million net tons, with a capability utilization rate of 77.0%.
This represents a 4.6% increase compared with the same week in 2025, when production totaled 1.703 million net tons and utilization stood at 76.5%. On a week-on-week basis, output rose slightly by 0.4% from 1.774 million net tons recorded in the week ending March 14, 2026, when the utilization rate was 76.7%.
Year-to-date production also reflected solid growth. Adjusted output through March 21, 2026, reached 20.394 million net tons, with a capability utilization rate of 77.2%. This marks a 4.9% increase over the 19.44 million net tons produced during the corresponding period in 2025.
Regionally, the Southern district led production with 807,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes region at 500,000 net tons. The Midwest contributed 287,000 net tons, while the Northeast and Western regions produced 129,000 and 58,000 net tons, respectively, highlighting balanced output across key U.S. steelmaking hubs.
