SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported a significant 9.9% year-on-year increase in U.S. weekly raw steel production for the week ending October 25, 2025, highlighting the ongoing recovery in the domestic steel industry.

According to AISI data, U.S. mills produced 1.747 million net tons (NT) of raw steel during the week, operating at a 76.3% capacity utilization rate. This compares with 1.589 million NT produced during the same week in 2024, when mills were running at 71.6% capacity utilization.

On a week-over-week basis, production edged up 0.2% from the 1.744 million NT produced in the previous week ending October 18, 2025, when the utilization rate stood at 76.1%.

Regionally, the Southern region continued to lead the nation with an output of 785,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes region with 538,000 net tons. Other regional outputs included the Midwest (236,000 NT), Northeast (125,000 NT), and Western region (63,000 NT).

For the year-to-date period through October 25, 2025, the adjusted total steel output stood at 73.711 million net tons, reflecting a 2.8% increase compared to 71.705 million net tons during the same period in 2024. The average capacity utilization rate so far in 2025 has been 77.0%, up from 75.8% last year.

The latest figures underscore a steady improvement in U.S. steel production levels, supported by firming demand, stronger mill utilization, and improved market conditions in key end-use sectors such as construction and manufacturing.
