SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domestic Raw Steel Production in the United States recorded a modest increase during the week ending January 17, 2026, reflecting stable operating conditions across major steelmaking regions. According to the latest data, weekly raw steel output totalled 1,756,000 net tons, while the capability utilization rate stood at 75.9 percent.

This compares with production of 1,700,000 net tons during the same week in January 2025, when utilization was slightly higher at 76.3 percent. The latest figures represent a 3.3 percent year-over-year increase, underscoring improved production momentum despite mixed market conditions. On a week-over-week basis, output edged up 0.2 percent from 1,752,000 net tons recorded in the week ending January 10, 2026, when utilization was 75.7 percent.
Adjusted year-to-date steel production through January 17, 2026, reached 4,238,000 net tons, operating at a 75.6 percent utilization rate. This marks a 2.9 percent increase from 4,119,000 net tons produced during the same period last year.
Regionally, steel production by district showed the Southern region leading with 773,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes (504,000), Midwest (277,000), North East (121,000), and Western district (81,000).
Production increased 3.3% year-over-year, showing stronger output despite mixed market conditions.
The rate was 75.9%, slightly up from 75.7% the previous week.
