SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to weekly production statistics released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. raw steel output continued its upward momentum in the week ending May 30, 2026.

The industry data indicates that domestic mills produced an estimated 1.872 million net tons of steel during the week. The nation's steel mills operated at a capacity utilization rate of 81.1%, suggesting stable production levels and strong demand across key manufacturing sectors.

Upon comparison with the corresponding week in 2025, output increased by 8.8%. The production totaled 1.720 million net tons, and utilization stood at 76.6% during the year-ago week. Also, weekly production edged higher by 0.1% from the previous week ending May 23, 2026, when mills produced 1.870 million net tons at an 81.0% utilization rate.

Year-to-date adjusted raw steel production through May 30, 2026, reached 38.925 million net tons, higher by 6.8% from 36.461 million net tons produced during the corresponding period in 2025. Average capability utilization reported a jump from 76.2% a year to 78.6%.

Regionally, the Southern district remained the largest steel-producing area, recording an output of 848,000 net tons during the week. Production in other districts included 495,000 net tons in the Great Lakes region, 321,000 net tons in the Midwest, 137,000 net tons in the Northeast, and 71,000 net tons in the Western district.
