SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domestic raw steel production in the United States showed mixed performance during the week ended December 20, 2025, based on the latest industry figures. Weekly steel output reached 1.725 million net tons, with mills operating at a capability utilization rate of 75.3%.
On a year-on-year basis, production increased by 3.6%, compared with 1.665 million net tons recorded in the same week of 2024, when the utilization rate stood at 75.0%. This growth points to steady steelmaking activity despite broader market uncertainty. However, on a week-over-week comparison, output slipped by 1.6% from the week ended December 13, 2025, when production totaled 1.753 million net tons and utilization was higher at 76.5%.

Adjusted year-to-date steel production through December 20, 2025 amounted to 87.606 million net tons, reflecting a 3.4% rise from 84.733 million net tons produced during the same period last year. The year-to-date capability utilization rate averaged 76.8%, up from 75.4% in 2024.
In terms of regional steel production, the Southern district led output with 812,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes region at 476,000 net tons. The Midwest produced 260,000 net tons, the Northeast reported 113,000 net tons, and the Western region contributed 64,000 net tons, underscoring varied U.S. steel output trends across districts.
