German steel giant ThyssenKrupp has announced that it has modernized the continuous annealing line at its Dortmund facility with an investment of around 30 million euro, to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from the line by half.

BERLIN (Scrap Monster): German steel giant ThyssenKrupp has announced that it has modernized the continuous annealing line at its Dortmund facility with an investment of around 30 million euro, to reduce nitrogen oxide emissions from the line by half.
The continuous annealing line at the Dortmund facility, with a monthly output capacity of 60,000 mt, produces advanced high-strength steels for the auto industry. These steel grades reduce the weight of car parts and so cut fuel consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.
With the new burner technology specifically developed for use in the Dortmund continuous annealing line, the air-gas mix burns with practically no residues.
A further environmental benefit is that the burners also work with the coke oven gas that ThyssenKrupp recycles as an energy source for the continuous annealing line.
