SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Global crude steel output posted a notable decline in December 2025, with the 70 member nations of the World Steel Association (worldsteel) producing 139.6 million tonnes (Mt) of steel—marking a 3.7% year-over-year drop.

Asia and Oceania continued to dominate worldwide steel production, generating 99.7 Mt during the month. The EU-27 region followed with 9.9 Mt, while North America secured the third position with 9.0 Mt. Production across other regions was reported as follows (in Mt):
· Africa: 1.9
· South America: 3.2
· Middle East: 5.3
· Other Europe: 3.8
· Russia & other CIS + Ukraine: 6.9
Several regions posted year-over-year growth in crude steel production. The Middle East recorded the strongest increase, surging 13.9% from December 2024. Other regions showing positive momentum included EU-27, Other Europe, and South America.
Most producing regions experienced downturns, with Asia and Oceania seeing the steepest fall at 6.3%. Output also slid in:
· Russia & other CIS + Ukraine: -2.7%
· North America: -0.4%
· Africa: -0.3%
worldsteel figures reveal that global crude steel production reached 1,803.8 Mt during the whole year 2025, representing a 2.0% decrease compared with 2024.
139.6 million tonnes, down 3.7% compared with December 2024.
Asia and Oceania, with 99.7 Mt, accounting for over 70% of global output.
The Middle East, with a strong year-on-year increase of 13.9%.
