The Chinese steel demand remained weak during the initial six-month period of the year.

ArcelorMittal Ended the First Half of 2025 in Strong Shape

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): ArcelorMittal announced half yearly results for 2025. The company ended the six-month period on a strong note.

U.S. and the EU Markets

The global economy and steel market were affected by the uncertainties surrounding U.S. tariff policies. The demand for steel was at further risk of decline due to the increased uncertainty. In recent months, the company's prospects have been hampered by the European market's stagnant economic growth. As a result, during the first week of 2025, there was little demand for steel.

Despite the apparent lack of demand for steel, prices and spreads have improved in the US and the EU. U.S. prices were boosted by the reinstatement of 25% steel tariffs and the subsequent reduction of tariffs to 50% in May 2025. The expected tightening of safeguard measures is the main cause of the high steel prices in the EU.

Chinese Market

Throughout the first half of the year, the demand for steel in China remained low. This was primarily due to the real estate industry's ongoing difficulties, which was somewhat mitigated by investments in infrastructure and a robust manufacturing sector. During H1 2025, the apparent consumption of steel decreased. Over the medium run, ArcelorMittal anticipates a reduction in the demand for steel in China.

Net debt position

As of June 30, 2025, the corporation owed $13.7 billion, up from $11.6 billion on December 31, 2024. Compared to $1.0 billion in the first half of 2024, net cash provided by operating operations was comparatively stable at $1.1 billion in the first half of 2025.
