AISI: U.S. Steel Shipments Edged Higher in December 2024

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): According to monthly figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. steel shipments in December of last year were marginally higher than those in the same month the previous year. Additionally, the shipments rose in comparison to the previous month.

U.S. Steel Imports Witnessed Modest Uptick in 2024

In December 2024, the steel mills shipped 7.145 million net tons, according to AISI data. Compared to shipments of 7.083 million net tons in the same month in 2023, this represents a 0.9% rise. Throughout the month, the shipments also increased little, up 6.6% over the prior month. It should be mentioned that last November's shipments totaled 6.703 million net tons.

Over the course of 2024, domestic steel mills in the United States shipped 86.131 million net tons. This represents a 3.6% decrease over the prior year. These mills produced 89.338 million net tons of steel in 2023.

This study compares the shipment amounts of different steel products for the entire year 2024 from year to year. Compared to the previous year, exports of corrosion-resistant sheet stayed consistent throughout the year. Hot rolled sheet shipments decreased by 7%. However, according to AISI, shipments of cold rolled sheets increased 3% annually compared to 2023.
