The Southern region was the highest producer, with 747,000 net tons produced.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): When compared to the same week last year, the U.S. weekly raw steel output saw a little increase of 3.4% during the week that ended on September 14, 2024. This is in line with the most current weekly domestic output figures from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The U.S. weekly domestic raw steel output totaled 1.749 million net tons (NT). The percentage of domestic mill capabilities utilized was 78.8%. It is crucial to keep in mind that production reached 1.691 million NT during the same week last year, albeit at a lower capacity utilization rate of 74.4%.
On the contrary, the weekly crude steel production recorded a marginal decline of 1.3% when compared with the previous week. The production was 1.760 million NT during the week ended September 7, 2024, with a capability utilization rate of 79.8%.
With 747,000 net tons produced, the Southern area was the top producer. The Great Lakes region generated 597,000 net tons during the week. The production (in thousand net tons) of the remaining regions are as follows: Midwest: 220; North East: 127; and West: 58.
As of September 14, 2024, the adjusted output year-to-date stood at 62.859 million net tons, with a capacity utilization rate of 76.8%. When compared to the production of 63.943 million net tons and the capacity utilization rate of 76.9% during the same year-to-date period in 2023, this represents a decrease of 1.70 percent.
