SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has reported a notable year-on-year increase in U.S. steel shipments for February 2026, signalling continued resilience in the domestic steel sector despite short-term fluctuations. According to the latest data, U.S. steel mills shipped 7.39 million net tons during the month, marking a 5.1% rise compared to 7.03 million net tons recorded in February 2025.

However, on a month-on-month basis, shipments declined by 2.5% from January 2026 levels of 7.58 million net tons, indicating some moderation in demand or seasonal adjustments.

Year-to-date figures present a more optimistic outlook. Total shipments for the first two months of 2026 reached 14.98 million net tons, representing a 3.5% increase over the 14.47 million net tons shipped during the same period in 2025.

Product-wise performance remained mixed. Corrosion-resistant sheet and strip shipments led growth with a 10% increase, followed by hot rolled sheet and strip, which rose by 9%. In contrast, cold rolled sheet and strip shipments declined by 8%, highlighting uneven demand trends across steel product categories.
