AISI: U.S. Steel Output Up 4.6% YoY

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domestic raw steel production in the United States recorded a notable increase in the week ending January 24, 2026, according to the latest data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). Total weekly output reached 1,778,000 net tons, while the capability utilization rate stood at 76.9%.

This compares with 1,700,000 net tons produced during the corresponding week in 2025, when the utilization rate was 76.3%, reflecting a year-on-year growth of 4.6%. Production also rose 1.3% week-on-week from 1,756,000 net tons recorded in the week ending January 17, 2026, when capacity utilization stood at 75.9%.

Adjusted year-to-date production through January 24, 2026, totaled 6,016,000 net tons, at an average utilization rate of 75.9%. This represents a 3.4% increase compared with 5,819,000 net tons during the same period last year, when utilization averaged 76.3%.

Regionally, steel output for the latest week totaled 123,000 net tons in the North East, 514,000 in the Great Lakes, 266,000 in the Midwest, 804,000 in the Southern district, and 71,000 in the Western region, highlighting broad-based production strength across key U.S. steelmaking hubs.
