AISI: U.S. Steel Output Shows Minor Weekly Dip

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): U.S. raw steel production totalled 1.734 million net tons for the week ending December 6, 2025, with a 75.7% capability utilization rate, according to the latest industry data. This marks a 4.6% increase from the same week in 2024, when output reached 1.657 million net tons at a 74.7% utilization rate, reflecting continued recovery in domestic steelmaking activity.

However, weekly production saw a marginal decline compared to the prior week. Output slipped 0.1% from the week ending November 29, 2025, when mills produced 1.736 million net tons and operated at 75.8% utilization. Despite the slight week-on-week drop, year-to-date performance remains strong.

From January 1 through December 6, 2025, adjusted U.S. steel production reached 84.128 million net tons, up 3.3% from 81.403 million net tons produced during the same period in 2024. Average capability utilization for the year to date stands at 76.8%, compared with 75.5% a year earlier, underscoring steady demand across key end-use sectors.

Regional production levels for the week showed the Southern district leading with 792,000 net tons, followed by the Great Lakes at 495, Midwest at 260, North East at 119, and Western region at 68 thousand net tons, bringing the total to 1.734 million net tons.
