SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The global stainless steel industry is set to dominate discussions at the upcoming Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) session in Gothenburg, Sweden.
The session comes at a crucial time for the global stainless steel industry, which is facing several challenges, including shifting demand patterns, volatile raw material prices, decarbonisation pressures, and changing international trade dynamics.
Market leaders and policy experts will highlight the key role of the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), India’s expanding stainless steel sector, and evolving melting technologies in reshaping global trade and recycling flows.
The session titled “Redefining Stainless Steel Markets: A Look into the EU’s CBAM, Developments in India and New Melting Practices”, organized by the Stainless Steel & Special Alloys Committee, will be held on June 2 under the chairmanship of Joost Van Kleef of Oryx Stainless BV.
The session features prominent speakers, including Ritesh Maheshwari of Shabro International, Anand Gupta of Aamor Inox Limited, and Julia Ettinger of Recycling Europe. The event will conclude with a panel discussion featuring industry economists, trade experts, and recycling policy specialists.
