Smurfit Kappa's Innovative Packaging Solution Hit Important Milestone

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Smurfit Kappa’s sustainable packaging solution for liquid and semi-liquid products- Vitop tap crossed an important milestone. The product volumes surpassed five billion mark, said the company press release.

According to the company, the Vitop tap, part of the company’s Bag-in-Box range of packaging solutions, was initially designed in 1989 and produced at the Alessandria, Italy facility. The various properties including its easy and convenient use, attractive and compact design added to its popularity. The combination of its tamper-proof design and high oxygen barrier contributed to extended product freshness and shelf life.

The Bag-in-Box products were initially used for wines. They were later extended to a wide range of food products including fruit juices, water, dairy products, oils and a number of non-food products including detergents and motor oils.

Commenting on the success, Didier Pontcharraud, CEO of Vitop noted that the success story has evolved and grown over time since its invention in 1989. Since then, the company has continued to develop and innovate the design, with the aim of delivering a product with outstanding performance. The company’s nine Bag-in-Box plants across Europe and the Americas have contributed significantly in achieving the important milestone, he added.
