SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Two employees belonging to Smurfit Kappa completed 8,500 kilometre cycle ride in aid of war-hit Ukraine. Philippe Rechoulet from France and Jose Luis Tani Stanghellini from Italy took approximately 100 days to cover a total of 36 company sites on the way. The journey, which started from Gibralter, Spain, travelled through ten different countries to end in Nordkapp in Norway.

Alongside gathering charity support to Ukrainian communities impacted by the war, the journey also focused on raising awareness of climate change and the benefits of an active lifestyle in ensuring healthy life. The charity cycle is one of the several projects that Smurfit Kappa has undertaken to positively impact the lives of vulnerable and underprivileged people through similar fundraising campaigns.

Commenting on the achievement, Saverio Mayer, CEO, Smurfit Kappa Europe said that the program is a testament to the good-hearted and caring nature of the company employees. The company is proud of Philippe and Jose’s awe-inspiring achievement, he added.

Philippe and Jose acknowledged the great support and motivation from the Smurfit Kappa plants that they passed along the way. The mammoth charity bike ride raised €105,000 for Ukraine.
