SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): South Korea-based SK Geo Centric Co., (SKGC) announced plans to build a new plastic recycling facility in France. The facility will be located at Saint-Avold in the Grand Est region of the country. The joint venture project is being implemented in cooperation with SUEZ- the leading circular waste solutions company and Canada-based Loop Industries, Inc.

According to news release by the company, the project will attract an overall investment of approximately 450 million euros. It will result in generation of nearly 200 new jobs in the region. Also, the plant will contribute towards sustainable circular economy and low-carbon future in the entire European region.

The project, with support of the French government, will leverage SKGC’s expertise in petrochemical processes, the expertise of SUEZ in resource management and Loop’s innovative depolymerisation technology to deal with plastic waste destined to end up in waterways and landfills.

The proposed plant will have capacity to manufacture 70,000 metric tons per year of 100% recycled and infinitely recyclable virgin-quality PET resins.

Na Kyung-soo, chief executive officer, SKGC noted that the company has achieved a critical milestone by selecting the location for the plant, which is supposed to be the first-of-its-kind plastic recycling plant in Europe.
