This follows concerns being raised by the local scrap metal dealers over recent surge in imports of scrap materials into the country.
SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): All scrap metal license renewals have been suspended, according to the Kenyan Scrap Metal Council. This comes after local scrap metal dealers voiced concerns over the recent spike in scrap material imports into the nation.
Numerous scrap metal associations believe that the country's growing imports of scrap metal have hurt the domestic scrap metal industry, according to Francis Mugo, Chairperson of the Scrap Metal Council.

According to Mugo, local steel industry participants have expressed a preference for imported scrap over locally accessible supplies. In addition, he stated that the Council will facilitate discussions between steel producers and other scrap metal industry participants to find a sustainable solution to the sector's numerous problems.
The Council suggested that in order to counter unlawful activities, such as the trading of stolen goods, a comprehensive assessment of the current licensing system be conducted. The brief halt will allow for discussion, aid in reestablishing industrial equilibrium, and guarantee the integrity of the whole supply chain.
The Council's decision was endorsed by a number of scrap metal traders, who saw it as a crucial step in restoring the local scrap metal sector.
A timetable for the start of license renewal has not yet been specified by the Council.
