OSHA Imposes Penalty on Medford Lumber Company for Repeated Violations

The inspection revealed violations of the OSHA Act of 1970.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) under the U.S. Department of Labor cited DuBell Lumber Company in Medford, New Jersey for repeated violations exposing employees to hazardous working conditions. The Administration authorities have imposed a penalty amounting to $106,432.

Following complaints of workplace safety and health hazards, OSHA compliance officer had conducted inspection of the site located at 148 Rt 70 Medford, NJ 08055. The inspection revealed violations of the OSHA Act of 1970.

OSHA observed that the employer failed to furnish the employees employment and a place of employment which were free from recognized hazards. The floor of workroom was not maintained in a clean and dry condition. The employees were not given eye protection devices as protection from flying objects. The employees were not provided a medical evaluation to determine their ability to use respirator. Moreover, the employees were not given protection or training from potential hazards resulting from exposure to energy sources.

DuBell Lumber Company has 15 business days from the receipt of citations to comply, request an informal conference with OSHA director or contest the findings before the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission. Penalties are due within 15 working days of receipt of notification unless contested.

Meantime, DuBell Lumber Company press release stated that the company will work with OSHA to understand the findings and take necessary remedial action to address the issues of concern.
