Drax Commenced Construction of Arkansas Pellet Plant

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Drax Group announced that it has begun construction of its new satellite pellet plant at Russellville, Pope County in northwestern Arkansas. The new plant is expected to generate nearly 30 direct jobs, in addition to several indirect jobs across Arkansas. The commercial operations at the plant are scheduled to begin next year, said company press release.

This is the second of three such plants to be constructed by the company, as per its earlier announcement. The first of the plants, located adjacent to a West Fraser sawmill in Leola, Grant County, is scheduled to be commissioned in October this year. Meantime, the company is said to be in the process of finalizing the location for the third and final site. Together, the three plants are expected to produce around 120,000 metric tons of sustainable biomass pellets per year.

Commenting on the development, Matt White, Senior Vice President, Drax Biomass noted that the investment will support international efforts to tackle the climate emergency. Furthermore, it will support Drax’s plans to develop bioenergy with carbon capture and storage, he added.
