Roseburg Forest Products Announced Groundbreaking of New Sawmill

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Ontario-headquartered Roseburg Forest Products announced that it has held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of its new Roanoke Valley Lumber sawmill in Weldon, North Carolina. This is further to previously announced plans by the company to expand its operations in the Southeastern U.S. with a high-capacity dimensional lumber mill.

The ceremony was attended among others by representatives for Roseburg; Mayor of the Town of Weldon Hugh Credle; President of Halifax Horizons Dan Brown; Chairman of the Halifax County Board of Commissioners Vernon J. Bryant; and N.C. State Rep. Michael Wray.

Since the announcement last summer, Roseburg has been carrying out extensive preparation works at the former Roanoke Valley Energy facility, making it ready for construction works to begin. The company has already entered into a contract with BID Group to design, build and equip the sawmill complex. The 375,000 square-foot facility is expected to create approximately 135 jobs in the initial two-year period.

The new sawmill advances the company’s strategy of vertical integration and reflects its long-term commitment to the Roanoke area, said Adam Reed, Roanoke Valley Lumber plant manager.
