SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): PureCycle Terchnologies, Inc. will break ground on its new plastic waste purification facility in Augusta Corporate Park, Augusta, Georgia. The second such facility by the company in the U.S. will help PureCycle to expand production of ultra-pure recycled (UPR) resin. The initial construction activities of the plant are expected to commence soon.
The facility will transform No.5 plastic waste into a sustainable material, which in turn could be used in the manufacture of yoghurt cups, cosmetics, plastic containers and car parts. The facility will have a total of eight purification lines, which will have a combined production capacity of nearly 1 billion pounds of like-new recycled plastic per annum, said the company press release.
The ultra-pure material produced from one of the most commonly used and less recycled plastics in the world will help to reduce reliance on single-use plastics that contaminate oceans and waterways, said Mike Otworth, Chief Executive Officer, PureCycle. The expansion will help the company to bring its versatile, recycled plastic into the Southeast region of the country, he added.
