Prince Albert Pulp Mill Restart Plan Reached New Milestone

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Cumberland Wood Products and Prince Albert pulp announced signing of a Letter of Understanding underling collaborative relationship between both the parties. This is another important milestone in the scheduled restart of the mill during the fall of 2023.

Chief Rene Chaboyer of the Cumberland House Cree Nation welcomed the partnership in the support of fibre supply and operations and stated that it will result in mutual benefit for both the parties. Cumberland House Cree Nation is pleased to acknowledge the working relationship with Prince Albert Pulp and Cumberland Wood Products and their efforts supporting the reopening of the mill in Prince Albert, he added.

Carlo Dal Monte, Vice President, Energy and Business Development at Paper Excellence noted that the Letter of Understanding is a key step in building its relationship with the Cumberland House Cree Nation. It will focus on efforts on environmental stewardship and industrial opportunities related to the restart of the Prince Albert mill. Monte added.

The growing indigenous participation in the economy is also in line with the Saskatchewan’s growth strategy.

It must be noted that the provincial government had granted softwood fibre allocation of 1,033,564 cubic metres per annum to its Prince Albert pulp mill.
