SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Pratt Industries broke ground on the new paper mill and box factory in Henderson, Western Kentucky. The official ceremony was attended by Gov. Andy Beshear along with local officials and company executives. The two facilities will be built at a combined investment of $500 million, which is considered as the biggest investment in the region in over 25 years.
The two facilities will total 1.15 million square feet of space. The 650,000 square feet paper mill will produce 100% recycled paper, whereas the 500,000 square feet box factory will produce corrugated sheet and boxes, including pizza boxes. The construction of the box factory is expected to be completed by 2023.
The construction phase of the project is expected to generate around 700 jobs. Upon completion, the two facilities together will offer around 320 well-paying jobs.
Anthony Pratt, executive chairman of Pratt Industries noted that the Henderson paper mill and box factory is the single biggest investment our company has ever made. The new location expands Pratt’s footprint in the commonwealth, which currently includes a Pratt Display manufacturing plant in Hebron.
Meantime, Gov. Beshear said that the arrival of Pratt Industries to the region will play a key role in Western Kentucky communities’ recovery after last week’s unprecedented storm.
