Port Alberni Paper Mill Received B.C. Funding to Reduce Carbon Emissions

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Paper Excellence announced that it has received $8.6 million in provincial funding announced by the CleanBC Industry Fund. The funding will be invested into projects that aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve operational efficiency at its mills.

The funding will cover above said projects in four of its mills- Catalyst Crofton, Catalyst Port Alberni, Howe Sound Pulp & Paper, Skookumchuck Pulp. These four mills together provide employment to more than 1,500 people in rural B.C., accounting for an annual economic contribution of approximately $2.25 billion.

Programs such as the CleanBC Industry Fund help the industry achieve the province’s ambition for a low carbon future. This round of fund allocated a total of more than $70 million in funding, with the aim of reducing nearly 4.6 million tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent over the next ten-year period.

As per reports, Port Alberni division of Paper Excellence received a sum of $323K towards installation of a new auxiliary hog wood waste feed system, improvement in reliability of biomass fuel supply to the main onsite steam boiler and reduction in natural gas consumption at the plant.
