The company’s REPREVE platform helped it to achieve the goal set in 2017.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Greensboro-headquartered Unifi announced that it has reached a key milestone, recycling 20 million plastic bottles. The company’s REPREVE platform helped it to achieve the goal set in 2017.
By surpassing the important milestone, it has saved enough energy to power more than 189,000 average homes for a period of almost one year. The 1.7 billion litres of water saved until now is equivalent to drinking water for approximately 2.3 million people for a year. Also, it has helped in avoiding over 517 million kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions, equivalent to the emissions resulting from consuming nearly 1.2 million barrels of oil, the company press release said.
Tom Caudle, President & Chief Operating Officer of Unifi thanked all its brand and mill partners around the globe for helping it reach the significant achievement and working with it in reducing plastic bottle waste. The conscious effort to recycle plastics, which takes several hundreds of years to decompose, would improve the environment and preserve it for future generations, he added.
The company targets to achieve its next goal of transforming 30 billion plastic bottles by 2022, by continuing to focus on its key priorities- sustainability and recycling.
