SC Johnson Partners with UN-Led Coalition to Tackle Plastic Pollution

The company, in partnership with Plastic Bank, will open eight recycling centers across Indonesia in 2019.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): SC Johnson announced that it has signed the New Plastics Economy Global Commitment, led by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in collaboration with UN Environment. By signing the commitment, it has joined the worldwide coalition that fights plastics pollution. The company joined the initiative during the ongoing 2018 Our Ocean Conference in Bali, Indonesia.

Fisk Johnson, Chairman and CEO of SC Johnson stated that the company, in partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and other global organizations, will implement united action to create a new plastics economy that stops plastics from becoming waste. Further, the company will strive hard to achieve the vision by eliminating plastics at source.

The company declared a series of commitments which includes tripling of PCR plastic content in its packaging by 2025. Also, 100% of its plastic packaging will be recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025. It has also decided to continue focusing on removing unnecessary plastics in its packaging and launching an effort to make Ziploc bags recyclable at curbside. In addition, SC Johnson will work with industry and NGOs to protect the environment by keeping plastic out of landfills.

Incidentally, 90% of SC Johnson’s packaging is presently either reusable or recyclable. It has made significant progress in removing plastic from its products.
