According to company press release, SABIC will process ocean-bound plastics using advanced recycling techniques, thus producing certified circular polymers. These polymers will be further processed by Polivouga to produce flexible packaging film. These films will be used to make bags, which will be used by Nueva Pescanova to package its frozen seafood products.
The exciting circular packaging solution demonstrates how used plastic that are likely to end up in oceans are brought back into circular material stream to be converted into high-quality food packaging material, noted Sami Al-Osaimi, vice-president PE and Sales at SABIC. Furthermore, it underscores the company’s commitment to the UN’s Strategic Development Goal 14 for ‘Life Below Water’, he added.
