SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Food and beverage manufacturer Nestle Philippines announced its decision to strengthen its partnership with private sector to cut plastic footprints in the country.
The partnership between Nestle Philippines and Plastic Credit Exchange (PCEx) focuses on collecting soft plastic waste from Baseco in Tondo, Manila, Payatas in Quezon City, and Rodriguez in Rizal. The collected plastic waste from landfills is co-processed in responsible manner.
The company has also extended support to PCEx and the City of Manila in their ‘Aling Tindera’ Waste-to-Cash program. Under this program, the sari-sari stores owned by women could redeem cash for post-consumer plastic waste collected by them. The program aims to boost income opportunities for women micro-entrepreneurs in order to promote organized plastic waste collection, thereby contributing to community health. It provides container vans for each participating store as storage for collected plastic waste.
Nestlé Philippines Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Kais Marzouki stated that plastic waste continues to accumulate in landfills and oceans. The company will take the issue of tackling plastic pollution seriously, he added.
