SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): The grants recently announced by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) have boosted investments by plastic recycling companies in new equipment.
A total of $665,630 was allocated to as many as 20 recycling companies. Nine out of the 20 companies belong to plastic recycling sector. The grants to the above mentioned companies totalled $337,000. The companies will invest $1.41 million of their money, as required by the grant conditions. The funding will be used to purchase latest machinery to boost recycling of plastic, which in turn will lead to diversion of approximately 15,400 tons per year of scrap plastic from N.C. landfills.

Jamie Ragan, director of the Division of Environmental Assistance and Customer Service noted that the grants are expected to create new jobs and redirect recyclables back into the economy.
