Innovative Technology Transforms Scrap Plastic Into ‘Ultra Clean’ Jet Fuel

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Clean Planet Energy- the London-based start-up company announced that it has developed a revolutionary technology that converts plastic scrap into ‘ultra clean’ jet fuel. The company aims to process approximately 1 million tonnes of non-recyclable plastics into ‘ultra clean’ jet fuel.

Using this technique, the plastic scrap is initially sorted and shredded into tiny pieces. These pieces are then heated in an oxygen-free reactor, which will break the scrap at molecular levels. The material is then cooled in a condenser, thereby creating new liquids and gases. The technology transforms plastics that cannot be mechanically recycled using currently available technologies, said Bertie Stephens, CEO of Clean Planet Energy.

The recycled fuel, known by the name ‘Clean Planet Air’, could be used as a replacement for the fossil-fuel equivalent. It reduces carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 75%. In addition to the carbon emissions savings, it also leads to 850 times reduction in the poisonous Nitrogen Dioxide and Sulphur Oxide emissions.

The company is currently building two plants that use this technology, which will have combined annual capacity of around 20,000 tonnes. Furthermore, additional four facilities are in design phase.
