The draft bylaw aligns with the City of Surrey’s ban on single-use items as well as the draft regulations on use of single-use items by Metro Vancouver.
According to the bylaw, businesses will be allowed to offer customers with paper ore reusable bags by charging at least $0.25 and $0.20 per bag respectively. Customers would be allowed to use their own plastic bags. Certain bags such as bags for meat or frozen food, plants, prepared foods, bulk items, prescription drugs, printed materials, linens and laundry are exempted from the ban.
The bylaw will also prohibit businesses from providing prepared food in any container made of polystyrene foam.
