Kroger is the world’s first retailer to offer a free and easy flexible plastic packaging recycling program for its Our Brands products in collaboration with TerraCycle. The programme provides customers with free, prepaid shipping labels, which can be used to mail in Our Brands packaging for recycling. The materials thus collected are recycled and used in construction of playgrounds.
The programme allows customers to recycle a wide range of flexible packaging including produce bags, bread bags and plastic overwrap from household items like tissues and bottled water. It must be noted that these items are not currently accepted in curbside recycling programmes.
Juan De Paoli, Kroger Our Brands vice president noted that the company is continually looking for creative and innovative solutions to support its vision of creating zero-waste communities.
