SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Stora Enso officially inaugurated its new cartonboard production line at the Oulu mill in Finland. This comes almost five months after production ramp-up.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo of Finland, Kari Jordan, the chair of the board of directors of Stora Enso, Hans Sohlström, the president and chief executive officer of Stora Enso, and Olli-Pekka Kaikkonen, the chief shop steward of the Oulu mill, officially opened the biggest and most advanced consumer packaging board production line in Europe.

Together with other site-related improvements, the business had invested EUR 1.1 billion in the new manufacturing line, for a total expenditure of roughly 1.7 billion in the Oulu mill between 2019 and 2025. The latest technology has been used to convert paper mills into board lines as a result of the investments. It has also contributed to a notable decrease in carbon emissions.

Utilizing the company's proprietary FiberLight Tec fiber processing technology, the new production line produces boards that are stronger, more durable, and lighter than conventional boards.

According to Hans Sohlstrom, President and CEO of Stora Enso, the investment will boost Finland's export earnings considerably and solidify the company's leadership in high-value renewable packaging materials.
