SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): European packaging major DS Smith has announced a series of measures to reduce carbon emissions, aimed at achieving ambitious climate targets. The company has committed to achieve 40% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions per tonne of product by 2030 and net zero emissions by 2050.
According to Martin Mead, Global Category Manager for Energy Efficiency, DS Smith, the company has initiated steps to ensure energy efficiency at its operations, by minimising the use of fossil fuels and electrical power. The company has switched from fossil fuels to renewable fuels wherever possible. Also, it has installed renewable energy systems, including solar power and wind turbines, at its factories.

The replacement of around 40,000 light bulbs to high-quality LED lighting has resulted in reduction of carbon dioxide output by 14,200 tons per annum.
