In a press release by the company, Domtar stated that the machine is expected to attain full resumption of operations in January next year

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Fort Mill, S.C.-based Domtar Corporation announced its decision to restart a paper machine at the Ashdown, Arkansas mill. The paper machine restart is aimed at boosting the mill manufacturing capacity in order to meet the increased customer demand.
In a press release by the company, Domtar stated that the machine is expected to attain full resumption of operations in January next year, following a short period of ramp up production during the current year. It will add approximately 185,000 tons of uncoated freesheet capacity to its total capacity. The restart, estimated to cost nearly $10 million, will help Domtar to reinforce its leadership position in the North American uncoated freesheet paper market, it noted.

The increased capacity will be used to improve thermal coated paper capacity at its West Carrolton, Ohio facility. The restart is unlikely to impact the mill’s fluff production capacity in any way. Also, it expects minimal impacts on the mill’s potential to produce containerboard and other packaging products.
Rob Melton, Senior Vice President-Pulp and Paper Commercial said that restart demonstrates the company’s efforts to leverage the flexibility of its asset base to meet growing demand for paper.
