Domtar Honoured as a Proud Winner of the ‘Beyond the Bag Challenge’

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Domtar has been honoured as one among the proud winners of the ‘Beyond the Bag Challenge’ conducted by a collaboration of Closed Loop Partners, global design firm IDEO, leading retailers and environmental partners among others. The company emerged as one among nine winners, who were selected from almost 450 participants across the globe.

The company introduced a 100% cellulose fiber-based material. The unique product stretches and flexes up to 40%. It is even stronger than conventional kraft bag paper and 47% lighter than conventional bag paper. Moreover, it is responsibly sourced and curbside recyclable after use. Thus it ensures itself to be a lighter-weight carrier bag material with superior qualities, reduced material content, and a lower environmental impact.

The product has been developed by Domtar’s Catapult team, which comprises individuals from market development and new technology innovation. Katie Zorn, senior director of strategic planning and market development noted that the team identified opportunities that aligned with Domtar’s core competencies and then translated those needs into innovative products and services.

Domtar’s circular solution is considered as a circular and viable alternative to single-use plastic retail bag, which is said to have negative environmental impacts.
