The ongoing curtailment is likely to extend until mid-summer.

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Richmond, B.C-headquartered pulp and paper manufacturer Paper Excellence announced its decision to extend temporary curtailments at its Crofton and Powell River paper mills. The company blamed a series of recent internal events as well as the current global conditions for the extension.
According to company press release, its paper business enterprise systems had been inoperable for a period of time, following a significant external malware attack. It is still continuing to restore affected operations. In addition, the company has been facing severe fibre shortage along B.C.’s coastal region. On top the above, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused material impacts to its supply chain.

The ongoing curtailment is likely to extend until mid-summer. Meantime, the core paper customer base will be serviced from its Port Alberni operation. As and when situations permit, the company plans to have intermittent manufacturing runs at Crofton facility. As of now, the situation remains highly fluid and the timeline may undergo further modifications depending on evolving market conditions, the press release said.
Meantime, the company announced that it remains committed to its long-term investment in the province.
