Paper Excellence Canada Declares Crofton Paper Mill Machine Restart

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Paper Excellence Canada announced that it plans to restart the No.3 paper machine at its Crofton, British Columbia paper mill. The restart is being scheduled for January 2021.

The machine was curtailed in the spring of 2020. In an update provided during June this year, the company had announced that the curtailment was likely to extend until mid-summer this year. It had then declared plans to have intermittent manufacturing runs at the mill. Paper Excellence had then said that the conditions continue to remain fluid. The huge drop in global paper demand on account of Covid-19 pandemic further delayed the restart.

The startup of the paper machine will see return of approximately 58 jobs. This will make the total employee count at the Crofton mill to around 560.

Announcing the decision, Patrick Corriveau, VP of Paper and Packaging at Paper Excellence said that the company is very much excited to return to full production at Crofton. The hard work of its sales people and the superior quality of its products has made it one among the few companies to resume paper production. The company will focus on production of new food and packaging papers, along with traditional printing and writing papers, he added.

Paper Excellence Canada operates nine facilities in Canada, producing over 3.0 million tonnes per annum.
