Off-Site Accident at Burkina Faso Gold Mine Leads to Worker Fatality

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Toronto, Ontario-headquartered IAMGOLD Corporation announced worker fatality due to an off-site accident at its Burkina Faso gold mine. The employee, who suffered injuries during the incident, passed away on Tuesday. The company press release expressed deep regrets.

According to the company, the accident took place at the Essakane project located in north-eastern Burkina Faso, when its team members were involved in the task of hoisting of a mobile equipment. The miner has already initiated an investigation into the incident. Also, it is working closely with local authorities to determine the cause of the accident, so as to ensure that such incidents do not repeat in future.

Maryse Belanger, Chair and Interim President and CEO of IAMGOLD Corporation extended sincerest sympathies and support to its colleague's family, friends and co-workers, on behalf of the company. Furthermore, he assured all necessary support, counselling and assistance to those impacted by the accident.

The company had reported 8% surge in its attributable gold production in Q3 over the sequential quarter to total 184,000 ounces. It expects the company’s FY22 gold output to exceed the top end of the previously announced guidance of 570,000-640,000 ounces, with all-in sustaining costs expected to remain below the bottom end of guidance range.
