SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Newcrest Mining, in a press statement, stated that it has resumed operations at its Brucejack gold and silver mine in Canada. It must be noted that all mining and processing operations at the mine have been halted since late-October this year, following death of a mine worker, belonging to its mining and development contractor, Procon.

The news release stated that the operations have resumed pursuant to a safety-first restart plan. Sandeep Biswas, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Newcrest Mining said that the critical incident at the mine is a reminder that any business must have safety as its top priority. During the period of suspension of mine operations, the company has reviewed all mine activities to identify potential hazards and formulate corresponding critical control mechanism to prevent injury or fatality. In addition, Newcrest has also established additional control verification mechanisms to ensure the effectiveness of the critical controls, he added.
Meantime, the company stated that the production, cost and capital expenditure guidance for FY23 for the Brucejack mine is likely to remain unchanged, unaffected by the devastating incident.
