SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Malta Guinness- Africa’s leading non-alcoholic, adult, premium soft drink, produced by Diageo announced launch of a new national plastic clean-up and awareness campaign in Alogboshie suburb of Ghana. The community-focused campaign aims to drive plastics sustainability, engage in conversations to raise public awareness on plastics pollution and suggest concrete actions to solve the issue.

According to the company, majority of the plastic packaging arte used only once, before they end up in landfills or are thrown away. Guiness Ghana has entered into a landmark deal with Coliba Ghana, by which it will fund ten plastics bottle buy-back centres in Accra and Kumasi. These centres will collect plastic bottles from consumers, which will then be responsibly recycled. The partnership will significantly boost plastic collection and recycling rates, it noted.
Sylvia Owusu-Ankomah, Corporate Relations Director noted that the campaign will support the government’s efforts to get rid of plastic pollutants from communities.
The campaign will focus on setting up plastics collection centres, where community members will be provided an opportunity to drop in their segregated plastics in return for incentives. It aims to bring drastic change in attitude of communities towards collection and recycling of plastics.
