Mount Holly, S.C. Flat Rolled Aluminum Plant to Undergo Massive Expansion

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): JW Aluminum- the leading manufacturer of flat-rolled aluminum products has announced commencement of expansion works at its Mount Holly flat rolled aluminum plant in Goose Creek, South Carolina.

The enhancement project is expected to boost the plant capabilities to better serve its primary end markets. The company projects a capital investment of nearly $255 million. The expansion project is considered as the most significant capital investment in continuous cast technologies in almost two decades. The expansion work includes construction of a new 220,000 square foot building and installation of state-of-the-art equipment that utilizes green technology. Hazelett Corporation’s proprietary Twin-belt Continuous Casting Process will be utilized for JW Aluminum expansion, sources said.

The project will lead to creation of 50 new jobs in the region. To fill the positions, JW Aluminum has already started recruitment process for skilled operators, industrial and electrical technicians and engineers.

The project is being financed through recently completed notes offering by JW Aluminum’s parent company. The project has already received approval for job development credits from the Coordinating Council for Economic Development. A grant amounting to $500,000 has also been sanctioned to assist with costs related to infrastructure development.

Stan Brant, Chief Operating Officer, JW Aluminum stated that the expansion would not have been possible without the experience and commitment of its dedicated workforce, local and national government support and its stakeholder’s commitment to the aluminum industry. Lee McCarter, Chief Executive Officer noted that the expansion is an exciting new chapter in the company’s history and that it will empower the company to produce superior products to its customers.

The project is expected to be completed by early-2020. Company sources indicated that the flat rolled aluminum production at the plant will not be affected during the construction period.
