SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Mondi announced progress on its previously announced €125 million investment to expand and upgrade its Kuopio mill in Finland. The company celebrated the ground-breaking ceremony to celebrate the major upgrade of the semi-chemical fluting mill, which was attended by Mondi’s Group CEO and other senior leaders along with key regional and local officials.
The investment is projected to further improve Mondi’s local environmental performance and contribute to the Group’s ambitious climate action plans as part of its sustainability commitments.

The new state-of-the-art equipment along with major improvements to processes will lead to significant reduction in noise and emissions of odour as well as effluents. In addition, the upgrades will help the company mitigate wood loss in processing, boost energy efficiency and enhance safety of operations.
Andrew King, CEO, Mondi Group said that the investment will boost production capacity by approximately 55,000 tonnes per annum. Also, the enhanced product quality will help it to better serve the growing customer demand. The improvement in the mill’s long-term sustainability will further consolidate the mill’s place in the community, King added.
The expanded mill is expected to start operations by the fourth quarter of 2023.
