SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Portland, Oregon-headquartered Metro Metals Northwest, Inc. announced acquisition of Tacoma, Washington-based Simon Metals. The acquisition is part of the company’s strategic plans to double export volumes from its Vancouver, Washington facility. The acquisition is with effect from 1st October, 2019, said the company press statement.
The acquisition is regarded as a strategic move, which will help Metro Metals Northwest to reduce trucking between Portland and Tacoma. Hereafter, the pick-ups from customers in the Seattle-Tacoma region will be shipped to the Tacoma yard, instead of Portland. The strategic location of the yard, with easy and convenient access to rail networks will help to cut down transportation costs.

Matt Haslett, spokesman for Metro Metals Northwest stated that the acquisition also includes Simon Metals’ electronics recycling operations in Vancouver. This will mark the entry of Metro Metals Northwest to electronics recycling services, as the company has not been offering such services before. Thus, the acquisition will result in significant expansion of recycling services offered by the company to its clients, Haslett added.
All the 78 employees at Simon Metals have been retained. The financial details of the transaction are yet to be published.
Metro Metals Northwest is the largest industrial-based scrap metal company in the region, serving customers throughout the Northwest.
