MetalX Selected Ohio Site for Aluminum Recycling Campus

SEATTLE (Scrap Monster): Fort Wayne, Indiana-based MetalX announced that it has selected a Defiance, Ohio site for setting up its previously announced aluminum recycling complex. The complex will host an aluminum slab manufacturing plant in addition to a scrap shredding facility and a logistics hub.

The recycled-content aluminum rolling slab facility will be built in partnership with Kentucky-based Manna Capital Partners. A total of 1 million square feet of new buildings will be constructed by the metal recycling company on the 190-acre campus. The total investment of around $253 million will create approximately 180 manufacturing jobs at the site. The plant is expected to become fully operational in the first half of 2027.

The slab casting facility will have a production capacity of 220 million lbs/year of ultra-low carbon aluminum rolling slab, though it will initially operate at a much lower capacity of 100-120 lbs/year. The advanced scrap processing operation has a capacity to process up to 300 million pounds per year of materials and is anticipated to deliver enhanced separation and shredding.

According to the company, the Defiance site has met all major criteria for the project, including transportation, access to rail network, proximity to scrap supply sources and strong workforce.
